How to Use This Work Experience Calculator
Trying to figure out exactly how many years and months you've worked? Doing it on your fingers or guessing doesn't work well, especially for resumes and job applications.
If you have worked at three different companies, took a break for a few months, or switched jobs in the middle of a month, the math gets messy fast. That is why we built this tool. It does all the hard work for you.
- Put in your dates: Add the start date and end date for your old jobs.
- Current job: Still working somewhere? Just check the "Currently working here" box. The tool automatically grabs today's date so you don't have to type it.
- More than one job: Click the "+ Add Another Job" button to put in your whole career history.
Why not just use Excel?
You can use Excel if you really want to. The formula =DATEDIF(A1, B1, "Y") works fine for a single job. But if you have multiple jobs, gaps in your career, or overlapping side hustles, Excel becomes a nightmare to set up. This online experience calculator handles all of that instantly without any confusing spreadsheets.
Does it count career gaps?
No, it does not. If you left a job in March and started a new one in August, those missing months are called a gap. Our tool only counts the exact days you actually worked. This keeps your resume honest and 100% accurate.
What happens if my jobs overlap?
Sometimes people work a full-time job and a part-time job at the same time. If your dates overlap, our system is smart enough to merge them. It makes sure you don't accidentally count the same month twice.
Features you won't find everywhere
We noticed most calculators out there are pretty basic. So we added a few things to make your life easier:
- Target Date: Want to know how much experience you will have by next December? Pick a future date at the top, and it will project your experience for you.
- Relevant Job Filter: Check the 'Relevant' box for jobs that match your main career path. You will see your total experience AND your relevant experience separately.
- Save as PDF: Click the print button to instantly get a clean document of your work history that you can save as a PDF.
