About JFIF and Base64 files

A .jfif file is an ordinary JPEG with a different extension — Windows and some browsers save JPEG images that way. Inside, the data is the same as a .jpg.

Base64 turns the file’s bytes into plain text, as a data URI you can paste into HTML, CSS, JSON or an email template. The original file is encoded unchanged — about a third larger as text. It is a good choice for embedding small images directly in code.

Limits

Up to 30 files of 25 MB each per batch and images up to 50 megapixels — beyond that browsers run out of memory, so the tool says so instead of producing a broken file. Files that are not images, or are damaged, are rejected with the reason.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device, and this page has no upload endpoint. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline.

Is JFIF to Base64 lossless?

Yes. The original file is kept byte for byte.

How do I use the Base64 output?

The text file contains a complete data URI. Paste it into an <img src="…"> attribute, a CSS url(…) or a JSON field. Base64 is about a third larger than the original file, so it suits small images.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 30 files of 25 MB each per batch, and images up to 50 megapixels. Convert them together and download each one, or take them all as a ZIP.
