Frequently asked questions
Are the tools free, and do I need an account?
Every tool is free and there is no account. Nothing is metered, there is no daily limit, and no email address is asked for at any point.
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
Each tool says which it does, on the tool itself. Tools marked as running in your browser do exactly that: the file is read by JavaScript on your own device and never sent anywhere. Where a job genuinely cannot be done in the browser, the page says so before you choose a file.
What is the difference between a tool and a calculator here?
A calculator takes numbers you type and works out a result. A tool acts on something you already have — a file, a block of text, a list — or does a job that has no answer to compute, like counting. They are separate sections because people look for them in different ways.
Why are there so few tools?
Because a tool is only listed once it actually works. There is a longer list of planned tools, chosen from real search demand rather than guesswork, and they appear here as they are finished. A grid of placeholder tiles would make the section look bigger and be worth less.
Can I suggest a tool?
Yes, through the contact page. Describing the job you are trying to do is far more useful than naming a tool, because the job usually points at a better tool than the one being asked for.
