About JPG and HTML files

JPEG is the standard format for photographs. It compresses by discarding fine detail the eye is unlikely to miss, so files are small but every re-save loses a little more.

The result is a single HTML file with the image embedded inside it as a data URI, plus a ready-made <img> tag with its width, height and alt text. It opens offline in any browser. It is a good choice for sending a self-contained page, or copying an <img> tag with the image built in.

Limits

Up to 30 files of 25 MB each per batch and images up to 50 megapixels — beyond that browsers run out of memory, so the tool says so instead of producing a broken file. Files that are not images, or are damaged, are rejected with the reason.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device, and this page has no upload endpoint. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline.

Is JPG to HTML lossless?

Yes. The original file is kept byte for byte.

Where is the image stored in the HTML file?

Inside it, as a Base64 data URI in the <img> tag. The file needs nothing else to display, but it is about a third larger than the image.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 30 files of 25 MB each per batch, and images up to 50 megapixels. Convert them together and download each one, or take them all as a ZIP.
