How to convert Markdown to Word
- Drop your Markdown file on the box above, or paste its content into the text box.
- Check the settings below the box; the defaults suit most files.
- Press Convert. You see a preview or a summary of the result.
- Download the .docx file.
What is kept when you convert Markdown to Word
- Headings become Word heading styles (so the navigation pane and table of contents work), bold, italic and inline code keep their formatting.
- Lists keep their numbering and nesting as indented paragraphs; tables become real Word tables with a repeating header row.
- Code blocks use a monospace Code style; images referenced by URL are listed as [Image: …] because the browser cannot fetch other sites’ files.
About Markdown and Word files
Markdown is plain text with light formatting marks — # for headings, ** for bold, - for list items, backticks for code. README files, notes apps, GitHub and many documentation sites use it. It opens in any text editor, GitHub, Obsidian, Typora, VS Code.
A .docx is a Word document: a ZIP package of XML parts that Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all read. It opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages.
Good to know
- GitHub, GitLab, Obsidian and most wikis render Markdown directly — paste the result rather than attaching the file.
- Choose Word when someone will edit the result. For a document that must look identical everywhere, PDF is better; for a web page, HTML.
Privacy and limits
The file is read and converted by this page in your browser; there is no upload and no account. HTML and javascript: links inside the Markdown are neutralised unless you choose otherwise. Files up to 25 MB are accepted; a file of the wrong type or a damaged file is rejected with the reason.
