What is kept when you convert EPUB to CSV

  • One row per chapter: number, title, source file, paragraphs, words, characters, and optionally the full chapter text.
  • Text with commas, quotes and line breaks is quoted properly, so each chapter stays in one cell.
  • A CSV cannot hold pictures or formatting — only text and counts. Excel shows at most 32,767 characters in a cell; the full text is still in the file.

Example

The same two-chapter EPUB as CSV:

About EPUB and CSV files

An EPUB is an e-book packaged as a ZIP file: XHTML chapters, a package file listing them in reading order, metadata such as title and author, and usually a table of contents. It opens in Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo, Calibre, Thorium.

CSV (comma-separated values) is a table as plain text: one row per line, fields separated by commas, and fields that contain commas, quotes or line breaks wrapped in double quotes. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, any database tool.

Good to know

  • Check the result in two readers (for example Apple Books and Calibre) — they differ slightly in fonts and spacing.
  • If a spreadsheet showed all your data in one column, the file probably uses semicolons (common in Europe); choose the delimiter instead of relying on detection.

Privacy and limits

The file is read and converted by this page in your browser; there is no upload and no account. Scripts inside the book are never run, the ZIP is read with size limits that stop archive bombs, and DRM-protected books are refused. Files up to 100 MB are accepted; a file of the wrong type or a damaged file is rejected with the reason.

Frequently asked questions

How are words counted?

Runs of letters and digits, with apostrophes and hyphens inside words kept together — the same rule for every language that separates words with spaces.

Can I get one row per paragraph?

Not yet; rows are per chapter. EPUB to XML gives every paragraph as its own element.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device, and this page has no upload endpoint.

Is there a size limit?

One file of up to 100 MB at a time. Larger files can exhaust a browser tab’s memory, so the tool refuses them with a message instead of failing halfway.
