How to convert EPUB to TXT
- Drop your EPUB file on the box above, or click it to choose the file.
- Check the settings below the box; the defaults suit most files.
- Press Convert. You see a preview or a summary of the result.
- Download the .txt file, or copy the text.
What is kept when you convert EPUB to TXT
- Chapters are read in the book’s reading order (the spine) with their table-of-contents titles; paragraphs are separated by blank lines.
- Title and author are written at the top. Pictures, styling and page layout are not part of plain text and are left out (image descriptions are kept as [Image: …]).
- Scripts and styles inside the book are never run — the chapters are read as text. DRM-protected books cannot be read and are refused.
Example
A two-chapter EPUB (“Sample Book” by Ada Lovelace) becomes:
Output
Sample Book
Ada Lovelace
==== Chapter 1: Arrival ====
The train was late.
==== Chapter 2: Morning ====
The café opened at seven.
About EPUB and TXT files
An EPUB is an e-book packaged as a ZIP file: XHTML chapters, a package file listing them in reading order, metadata such as title and author, and usually a table of contents. It opens in Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo, Calibre, Thorium.
A .txt file is plain text: characters and line breaks, with no fonts, sizes or layout. It is what Notepad, TextEdit, code editors and many export buttons produce. It opens in any text editor.
Good to know
- Check the result in two readers (for example Apple Books and Calibre) — they differ slightly in fonts and spacing.
- If accented letters show up as é or ?, the text file was saved in an older Windows encoding; this tool reads UTF-8 and falls back to Windows-1252 automatically, so open the result and check one accented word.
Privacy and limits
The file is read and converted by this page in your browser; there is no upload and no account. Scripts inside the book are never run, the ZIP is read with size limits that stop archive bombs, and DRM-protected books are refused. Files up to 100 MB are accepted; a file of the wrong type or a damaged file is rejected with the reason.
