What is and is not included

Titles, text boxes, placeholders and bullet levels are read from each slide’s XML in slide order; speaker notes come from the matching notes page, so they stay with the right slide even when some slides have no notes. Pictures, charts, SmartArt, tables drawn as graphics, layout and formatting are not text and are left out. Legacy .ppt files (PowerPoint 97–2003) use a different binary format and are refused with a message rather than read badly. Need formatting kept? Use PPT to Word or PPT to HTML.

Frequently asked questions

What text does it extract?

Every slide title and the text in each text box and placeholder, in slide order, with bullet levels kept as indentation. Speaker notes are added under each slide if you tick the option.

Does it read old .ppt files?

No. A .ppt from PowerPoint 97–2003 is a different binary format. Open it in PowerPoint, LibreOffice or Google Slides and save it as .pptx, then convert that file.

Is text in pictures, charts or SmartArt included?

Text that is part of a picture needs OCR and is not read. Chart labels and SmartArt are stored in separate parts of the file and are not included; ordinary text boxes and placeholders are.

Which encoding is the file?

UTF-8 with a byte-order mark and Windows line endings, so Notepad, Word and Excel open it correctly in any language.

Is my presentation uploaded?

No. The .pptx is read in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
