How to convert OFX to QBO
- Drop your OFX file on the box above, or paste its content into the text box.
- Check the settings below the box; the defaults suit most files.
- Press Convert. Every amount and date is checked; if any row cannot be read exactly, nothing is written and the rows are listed.
- Download the .qbo file.
What is kept when you convert OFX to QBO
- The file is kept exactly as your bank wrote it; only Intuit’s INTU.BID bank identifier is added (or replaced) in the sign-on section.
- Before download, the new file is read back and every account, date, amount, FITID and description is compared with the original. Any difference stops the conversion.
- You enter the INTU.BID yourself — it is never guessed.
Example
The sign-on block after conversion with INTU.BID 10898 — only that element is added:

About OFX and QBO files
OFX (Open Financial Exchange) is the standard bank-statement download format. Version 1 files are SGML with unclosed tags; version 2 files are XML. Each transaction carries a date, an amount with its sign, a type and a unique FITID. It opens in Quicken, QuickBooks, GnuCash, Moneydance, most accounting software.
QBO (QuickBooks Web Connect) is OFX with Intuit’s INTU.BID bank identifier. QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online import it as a bank feed file. It opens in QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online.
Good to know
- GnuCash and Moneydance import OFX through File → Import; Quicken and QuickBooks prefer QFX and QBO.
- In QuickBooks, import a short test file first; once a date range is imported, re-importing it can create duplicates if the transaction IDs change.
Privacy and limits
The file is read and converted by this page in your browser; there is no upload and no account. Amounts are handled as exact decimal text, never as rounded numbers. Files up to 25 MB are accepted; a file of the wrong type or a damaged file is rejected with the reason.
