How to convert JPG to transparent PNG
- Drop your JPG files on the box above, or click it to choose them (up to 30 at once).
- Check the settings.
- Press Convert. Each file is processed on your device and shows its old and new size.
- Download the files one by one or take them all as a ZIP.
What changes when you convert JPG to transparent PNG
- Every decoded pixel is written exactly — PNG is lossless here. Converting cannot restore detail JPG compression already discarded; it only stops further loss.
- Near-white pixels within the tolerance become fully transparent; everything else keeps its colour. This matches a plain background — it does not recognise the subject, so white areas touching the edge are removed too.
- Camera details and GPS location (EXIF) are not copied into the new file. Photo orientation is applied to the pixels first, so the result is the right way up.
About JPG and PNG files
JPEG is the standard format for photographs. It compresses by discarding fine detail the eye is unlikely to miss, so files are small but every re-save loses a little more.
PNG is lossless: every pixel is stored exactly, and it supports full transparency. Photos come out large; screenshots, logos and graphics with flat colour stay small. It is a good choice for screenshots, logos, graphics with text, and anything that needs a transparent background.
Limits
Up to 30 files of 25 MB each per batch and images up to 50 megapixels — beyond that browsers run out of memory, so the tool says so instead of producing a broken file. Files that are not images, or are damaged, are rejected with the reason.
