Quick answer
To find how long you have been together, count full years from your start date, then full months, then the days left. A couple married on 14 February 2015 have been married 11 years, 7 months and 15 days on 29 September 2026, and their 12th anniversary is on Sunday, 14 February 2027.
How to use the anniversary calculator
- Choose what you are celebrating. Wedding, relationship, engagement, work or friendship. Only the words change; the date maths is the same.
- Enter the start date. For a marriage this is your wedding date. For a relationship, use the day you became a couple.
- Read your result. You get the time together in years, months and days, the next anniversary with its weekday, the gift for that year and your big day milestones.
- Save the date. Tap “Add to calendar” to get a reminder one week before, every year.
Want to check a past or future date instead of today? Open More options and change “Count up to”. Handy if you want to know how long you had been married on a trip, a birthday or the day your first child was born.
How is the time together counted?
We count the same way you would on a paper calendar:
- Years are full anniversaries that have passed.
- Months are full months since the last anniversary.
- Days are what is left over.
Each step starts again from your original date, so short months such as February never push the count off by a day. The total number of days is a true count of calendar days, so leap years are included. That is why 5 years is not always 1,825 days — it is usually 1,826 or 1,827.
Example: Neha and Arjun married on 14 February 2015. On 29 September 2026 they have been married 11 years, 7 months and 15 days, or 4,245 days. Their 12th anniversary is on Sunday, 14 February 2027, 138 days away. The traditional 12th-anniversary gift is silk or linen.
Wedding anniversary gifts by year
Many couples like to follow a theme for each year. The traditional list is older and mostly uses materials that get stronger with time: paper in year one, then cotton, leather and wood, up to gold at 50 and diamond at 60. The modern list was made popular in the United States in the 20th century and often suggests jewellery or home items. Lists differ a little by country, so treat them as ideas, not rules.
| Year | Traditional | Modern |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paper | Clocks |
| 2 | Cotton | China |
| 3 | Leather | Crystal or glass |
| 4 | Fruit and flowers (UK: linen) | Appliances |
| 5 | Wood | Silverware |
| 6 | Iron (UK: sugar) | Wood |
| 7 | Wool or copper | Desk set |
| 8 | Bronze | Linen or lace |
| 9 | Pottery (UK: willow) | Leather |
| 10 | Tin or aluminium | Diamond jewellery |
| 11 | Steel | Fashion jewellery |
| 12 | Silk or linen | Pearls |
| 13 | Lace | Textiles or furs |
| 14 | Ivory | Gold jewellery |
| 15 | Crystal | Watches |
| 20 | China | Platinum |
| 25 | Silver (silver jubilee) | Sterling silver |
| 30 | Pearl | Diamond |
| 35 | Coral | Jade |
| 40 | Ruby | Ruby |
| 45 | Sapphire | Sapphire |
| 50 | Gold (golden jubilee) | Gold |
| 55 | Emerald | Emerald |
| 60 | Diamond (diamond jubilee) | Diamond |
| 65 | Blue sapphire | Blue sapphire |
| 70 | Platinum | Platinum |
In India, the 25th anniversary is widely called the silver jubilee and the 50th the golden jubilee. Families often mark these with a get-together, a renewal of vows or a small puja, and the gift list above is used as a loose guide.
Day milestones worth celebrating
Anniversaries come once a year, but day counts give you extra reasons to smile:
| Milestone | Roughly | Nice way to mark it |
|---|---|---|
| 100 days | 3 months and a bit | A handwritten note about your favourite moment so far |
| 500 days | 1 year, 4 months | Recreate your first date |
| 1,000 days | 2 years, 9 months | A photo book of the first thousand days |
| 5,000 days | 13 years, 8 months | A weekend away, just the two of you |
| 10,000 days | 27 years, 4 months | A family dinner — this one is rare |
The calculator lists the exact date for each one. For example, a couple who got together on 1 January 2024 reach 100 days on 10 April 2024 and 1,000 days on 27 September 2026.
What if your anniversary is on 29 February?
A leap-day date only comes around every four years. In the other years, most people celebrate on 28 February so the party stays in the same month. Some prefer 1 March, the day after 28 February. The calculator uses 28 February by default and lets you switch to 1 March under More options. For a wedding on 29 February 2008, the next anniversaries fall on 28 February 2027, 29 February 2028 and 28 February 2029.
Simple ideas to make the day special
- Go back to where it began. The café, the college gate, the wedding venue — a short visit brings back a lot.
- Use the gift theme in a small way. Paper can be a love letter; cotton can be matching T-shirts; wood can be a plant in a wooden pot.
- Write down one thing you learned together this year. Keep the notes in one jar and read them at the 10th or 25th.
- Plan the next one early. Use the calendar button so the date never sneaks up on you.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate how long I have been married?
Enter your wedding date. The calculator counts full years since that date, then full months, then the days left over, using real month lengths and leap years. It also shows the total in days, weeks and months.
When is my next anniversary?
Your next anniversary is the same day and month as your wedding (or start) date in the coming year. The result shows the date, the weekday and how many days are left.
Which anniversary is this year?
Subtract your wedding year from the year of your next anniversary. If you married in 2015, the anniversary in 2027 is your 12th.
What is the gift for each wedding anniversary?
The best-known list starts with paper (1st), cotton (2nd), leather (3rd), wood (5th), tin (10th), crystal (15th), china (20th), silver (25th), pearl (30th), ruby (40th), gold (50th) and diamond (60th). There is also a modern list, and both are shown in your result.
How many days have we been together?
The total-days figure counts every calendar day from your start date up to today (or the date you choose). It is not years × 365, because leap years add an extra day.
What if we got married on 29 February?
In leap years your anniversary is on 29 February. In other years most couples celebrate on 28 February; you can switch the calculator to 1 March if you prefer.
Can I count down to a wedding that has not happened yet?
Yes. Enter a future wedding date and the calculator shows how many days and weeks are left until the big day.
Can I use it for a work or friendship anniversary?
Yes. Choose “Work / job” or “Friendship” and the wording changes. The date maths is the same for every kind of anniversary.
Is my date saved anywhere?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser. Nothing is sent to our server, and the date is only kept on your device if you tick “Remember on this device”.
