How to use the auto loan calculator
- Enter the car price, your down payment and the APR.
- Choose the loan term.
- Open "Trade-in, sales tax and fees" if they apply.
- Press Calculate payment.
Work out a monthly car payment, how much you will pay in interest and the full cost of the car, including your trade-in, sales tax and dealer fees.
Enter the price, down payment, rate and term, then press Calculate payment.
Payment = L × i × (1 + i)^n ÷ ((1 + i)^n − 1), with L the amount financed, i the APR ÷ 12 and n the number of months.
In most US states yes: tax is charged on the price minus the trade-in. The calculator works that way.
The payment is lower but you pay more interest, and you may owe more than the car is worth for longer.
An estimate. A few states tax the full price before the trade-in; your dealer's figures may differ.
