Simple interest is paid on the original principal only. Compound interest is paid on the principal plus the interest already added, so the gap grows every year. The result shows both on the same numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the compound interest formula?

A = P × (1 + r ÷ n)^(n × t). The interest is A − P.

How much is ₹1 lakh at 8% for 5 years?

Compounded quarterly: ₹1,48,594.74. Compounded monthly: ₹1,48,984.57. With simple interest it would be ₹1,40,000.

Does more frequent compounding earn more?

Yes, a little: interest is added sooner, so it starts earning interest sooner. The difference between quarterly and monthly is small; the rate and the time matter far more.
